MUSLIMS are set to fast for the holy month of Ramadan but those living in perpetual daylight face an unusual dilemmas Ramadan is a month-long period of fasting, prayer to Allah, reading the Qur’an, giving to charity, deep contemplation and self-purification.  Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset and also abstain from smoking and sex during daylight hours throughout Ramadan.  Some scholars believe that the Qu-ran was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad during the month, making it particularly holy. When does Ramadan start?  The Muslim festival is ninth month of Islam’s lunar calendar, which begins on the sighting of the new moon.    This year Ramadan is due to start around Monday June 6 in most parts of the world. In many countries, official confirmation comes from Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court.  The holy festival overlaps with A-level and GCSE exams in Britain this year, but  Ofsted refused to move the exams for Ramadan. Ramadan 2017: Is Ramadan Mubarak or Ramadan Kareem the correct greeting? GETTY Ramadan: Muslim boys hugging on Eid al-Fitr RAMADAN, the holiest month of the Muslim calendar, began on Friday, but there remains confusion over the correct greeting to use during the fasting period. Is Ramadan Mubarak or Ramadan Kareem correct? Ramadan Mubarak is the most common greeting used by Muslims, and translates to “have a blessed Ramadan”. Ramadan Kareem is another phrase often used, however there is some debate as to whether it is appropriate. Some say that the phrase, which means “may Ramadan be generous to you”, goes against the teachings of Islam because Ramadan itself cannot be generous. As Saudi Arabian scholar Sheikh Al-Uthaymeen explained, “it should be said ‘Ramadan Mubarak’, or whatever is similar to it, because it is not Ramadan itself that gives so that it can be kareem (generous), in fact it is Allah who placed the grace in it, and made it a special month, and a t

To someone unfamiliar with the science of hadith, the collections of hadith may seem unreliable and susceptible to corruption. However, due to the work of Imam Muhammad al-Bukhari in the 9th century, the science of hadith has been protected f

HAPPY RAMADAN KAREEM 27TH MAY,2017

Praise be to Allaah. This is one of the issues on which the scholars, may Allaah have mercy on them, differed. The majority of fuqahaa’ say that it is haraam for a woman to recite Qur’aan during her period, until she is taahir (pure) again. The only exceptions they make is in the case of dhikr (remembrance of Allaah) and phrases that are not intended as tilaawah (recitation), such as saying “Bismillaahi’r-Rahmaani’r-Raheem” or “Innaa Lillaahi wa innaa ilayhi raaji’oon”, or other phrases from the Qur’aan which are repeated as general du’aa’s. They base their evidence for forbidding menstruating women to recite Qur’aan on several things, including the following: Menstruation is seen as coming under the rulings that apply to one who is junub (in a state of impurity following sexual intercourse), because both states require ghusl. This is based on the hadeeth narrated by ‘Ali ibn Abi Taalib (may Allaah be pleased with him), according to which the Messenger of Allaah (peace and bles
