Life. scientific discovery

There was light. But then what happened? How did life arise on the third rocky planet orbiting the unremarkable star at the center of our solar system? Humans have been wondering about the answer to that question probably almost as long as we've been able to wonder. In recent decades scientists have made some gains in understanding the conceivable mechanisms, gradually settling on a possible picture of our origins in the oceans. The idea was that hydrothermal vents at the bottom of the seas, protected from cataclysms rending the surface four billion years ago, delivered the necessary energy and could have sustained the molecules needed. Perhaps not. Water was a necessary ingredient, surely, but that doesn't mean we sprang from oceans, according to researchers Martin J. Van Kranendonk, David W. Deamer and Tara Djokic in our cover story, “ Life Springs .” Oceans, they write, might have spread the needed molecules too quickly for cell membranes and functions to occur. Inst

Needfor a cybersecurity agency By Ibrahim Waziri Jr | Publish Date: Jun 21 2017 2:00AM  The new buzz statement is “Data is the new oil.” In this digital era, data is what oil is in the 19th century. Everyone is talking about how “Data is going to be new the resource economies are going to be built upon.” Whether that is true or not, there is no doubt, that data is valuable. Gathering data to serve human needs has always played a significant role in human existence. From fighting wars (intelligence gathering), Hydrocarbon exploration (using geological and seismic data), to predicting the future (like weather) so we are better prepared for it. The hardest part of data gathering has always been turning data into information that results   into   intelligence.   Hence,   one   reason   why   securing   data   was   not   as important as securing information. However, due to the 21st century digital revolution, technology has enabled us make   sense   of   the   tiniest   d

MUSLIMS are set to fast for the holy month of Ramadan but those living in perpetual daylight face an unusual dilemmas Ramadan is a month-long period of fasting, prayer to Allah, reading the Qur’an, giving to charity, deep contemplation and self-purification.  Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset and also abstain from smoking and sex during daylight hours throughout Ramadan.  Some scholars believe that the Qu-ran was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad during the month, making it particularly holy. Some say that the phrase, which means “may Ramadan be generous to you”, goes against the teachings of Islam because Ramadan itself cannot be generous. As Saudi Arabian scholar Sheikh Al-Uthaymeen explained, “it should be said ‘Ramadan Mubarak’, or whatever is similar to it, because it is not Ramadan itself that gives so that it can be kareem (generous), in fact it is Allah who placed the grace in it, and made it a special month, and a t

To someone unfamiliar with the science of hadith, the collections of hadith may seem unreliable and susceptible to corruption. However, due to the work of Imam Muhammad al-Bukhari in the 9th century, the science of hadith has been protected f
